The deliverance from Egypt covers not only the blood covenant people of Abraham's seed being rescued but as we study it we can see that the Lord came against Egypt and their king (pharaoh) who was esteemed as an incarnation and worshipped as a god. The plagues were all meant to bring low the gods that the Egyptians worshipped, and not one of the plagues touched God's blood covenant people.
This was before the ten commandments had been given, but it certainly helps us to realize what was happening when God said the first commandment was, "You shall have no other god before me." And, becomes clearer when in the New Testament/New Covenant, Jesus said the greatest commandment is that, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul, and you shall love your neighbor as you love yourself."
