Seven Steps to Answered Prayer

I. Be Specific and Stand on God’s Promises

Decide what you want from God and find the scripture or scriptures that definitely promise you these things.

A. Pray According to the Word

Joshua 1:8 (KJV) 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Psalm 119:11 (KJV) 11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

e.g. healing scriptures Isa 53:4,5; Matt 8:17; 1 Peter 2:24

B. Use the Sword of the Spirit against the devil

Matthew 4:4 (KJV) 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Matthew 4:7-11 (KJV) 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

“It is written” is your sword! If you don’t know it you can’t use it.

Matthew 18:19 (KJV) 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

When you know it, use it, stand your ground.

C. Fight the Good Fight of Faith

1 Timothy 6:12 (KJV) 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

If there weren’t any hindrances, there wouldn’t be a fight.

Fighting the good fight of faith is speaking the Word out of your mouth.

II. You Must Ask God for What You Want

Matthew 6:32 (KJV) 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

John 16:23-24 (KJV) 23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV) 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Mark 11:23-24 (KJV) 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

A. Sense Knowledge Truth vs Revelation Truth

Believe God not satan

2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV) 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Ephesians 1:3 (KJV) 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV) 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

Romans 3:4 (KJV) 4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

People must act like the scriptures are true!

III. Be Positive in Your Thinking

Let every thought and desire affirm that you have what you asked for.

James 4:7 (KJV) 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Doubt is from the devil

A. Reject Anything that Contradicts the Word

Matthew 8:17 (KJV) 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Hebrews 1:1-2 (KJV) 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

John 1:1-5 (KJV) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1:14 (KJV) 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Acts 10:38 (KJV) 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

IV. Guard Your Mind

Guard against every evil thought that comes into your mind to try to make you doubt God’s Word.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Philippians 4:8 (KJV) 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

V. Meditate on God’s Promises

Meditate constantly on the promises upon which you based the answer to your prayer.

(See yourself in possession of what you asked for and make plans as if it is already reality.)

Proverbs 4:20-22 (KJV) 20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

See yourself with your answer

“The Bible says it, I believe it, and that settles it.”

The only way God works is through His Word.

Psalm 138:2 (KJV) 2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

John 15:7 (KJV) 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

e.g. pg 10 (82 year old woman) Proverbs 4:20-22 (KJV) 20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

VI. Continually Thank God for the Answer

In your every waking moment, think on the greatness of God and His Goodness, and count your blessings.

Philippians 4:6 (KJV) 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Mark 9:23 (KJV) 23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

VII. Make Every Prayer a Statement of Faith

Make every prayer relative to what you’ve asked a statement of faith instead of unbelief.

It is thinking faith thoughts and speaking faith words that leads the heart out of defeat and into victory.

Isaiah 43:26 (KJV) 26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.

A. Don’t Undo Your Prayers

Thank Him for the “answered” prayer.

B. Use the Faith You Have

Romans 12:3 (KJV) 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Follow these seven steps to answered prayer, and expect to receive answers to your prayers. Do not accept no for an answer and do not be denied! It’s your family right in Christ, your redemptive right, your gospel right, and your right as a recreated blood-bought, child of God to have what God has promised you. By faith appropriate what belongs to you and it will come. It’s yours now by faith. So accept God’s Word and believe it and it will become a reality in your life!
