The Authority of God's Word

Many times theologians have not been our friends. They have made a philosophy of the truth; they have turned the word into a dogmatic doctrine and creed when it should have been as though Jesus Himself were here speaking to us.

The Word speaks to us as Jesus would if He were visibly, physically with us. The Word takes His place. The Word has the same authority Jesus would have if He were to appear before us.

When we pick up the Bible, it is good for us to remember that It is The Book with God and Life is it.

The Word is always now. It always has been, it always is, and it always will be the voice of the Living God. It is never old. It is always fresh and new. To the person whose heart is in fellowship with God, the Word IS God’s living voice.

The Word of God IS like its Author – It is eternal, unchanging, and living. The Word is the mind of God. The Word is the will of God.

The Word is God speaking. It is a part of God Himself. It is Jesus, Jesus is the Word. It abides forever. God and His Word are one.

Jesus is the Word, and He lives in me. I read the Word; I feed on the Word; and the word lives in me. When I want more of Him, I feed on His Word. If I want to know more of Him, I learn more of His Word. I hold His Word in my hand. I have His Word in my heart. I have His Word on my lips. I live it. It lives in me.

The Word is my healing and my strength. It is the bread of life to me. It is the very ability of God in me. The Word is the life of Christ. All He is, His Word is.

The Word of God is my confession. It is my light and my salvation. It is my rest and my pillow.

The Word gives me quietness in the midst of confusion and victory in the midst of defeat.

The Word gives me joy where desolation reigns.

The Word Is Not a Common Book

One of the most dangerous habits that Christians have is treating the Bible as if It were an ordinary book.

In one breath Christians declare that they believe the Word to be revelation from God; and then they turn to others for help when God has promised perfect deliverance. They treat the Truth of redemption as though it were a fairy tale. The sing hymns praising it; yet they live under the dominion of the adversary. They continually confess sickness, want, fear, weakness, and doubts even in the face of this revelation from God of their redemption, of the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ, and of the fact that He is seated now at the right hand of God, having finished a work that perfectly satisfies the demands of justice and meets every need of humankind.

The book of James calls this “double mindedness,” like a wave being tossed on the sea. James says that people who are that way should expect nothing from God. This is why so many Christians today live in sickness, weakness, fear, and disease today. This is why the average Christian today shows no boldness, but shakes in fear at every threat of Satan.

All of this can be changed immediately. If we will but purposefully give the Word the same place you would give to Christ is He were visibly and physically in your presence today.

Is He Speaking to Me?

John 3:16 (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God loved, and still loves, the whole world, that He sent His Son, so that whosoever, I’m a whosoever, you are a whosoever, believes in Him will not perish, but has everlasting life.

John 1:12 (KJV) 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Isaiah 41:10 (HCSB) 10 Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.

Jeremiah 33:3 (HCSB) 3 Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know.

The Living Testament says it this way. . .Jeremiah 33:3 (NLT2) 3 Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.

Isaiah 45:11 (HCSB) 11 This is what the LORD, the Holy One of Israel and its Maker, says: “Ask Me what is to happen to My sons, and instruct Me about the work of My hands.

John 15:7 (HCSB) 7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.

Does this mean me? Does this mean you? A few weeks ago I taught a lesson on God is no respecter of persons. These promises are all yours when you believe in Jesus Christ. When you believe in Jesus it is as though you were the only person in the world and He was writing all these things for your own special benefit.

John 16:24 (AMP) Jesus said: 24 Up to this time you have not asked a [single] thing in My Name [as presenting all that I AM]; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy (gladness, delight) may be full and complete.

So, if Jesus said this, then we ask in Whose Name? In Jesus’ Name. . .

When I am in need, I can boldly say: My God shall supply all of my need according to His riches in glory by Jesus Christ (Phil. 4:19). When I am standing against sickness, I boldly confess; by His stripes, I was healed (1 Peter 2:24).

Faith in God’s Word is faith in God. If you want to build up your faith in God, then feed upon His Word. Unbelief in God’s Word is unbelief in God Himself. When you believe God’s Word, then you will gladly confess His Words.

Our attitude toward God’s Word settles everything. Meet Satan with the words, “It is written,” and all of his sicknesses, diseases, pains, and symptoms will have to leave.

Confess What God Says

James 4:7 (KJV) 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

When the devil finds that we have discovered the secret of using, “It is written,” he flees from you.

Psalm 107:20 (KJV) 20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

This Word is for me, this Word is for you, God is no respecter of persons. When I confess this scripture, when I declare this scripture over my life, over my circumstance, out loud. To confess means to speak. Then God sends His Word and heals me. Even before evidence is seen, I praise Him for His Word, I praise Him for His healing. This is faith.

When you confess God’s Word, your confession brings healing to you. When you confess your sickness, your confession keeps you sick. Always confess God’s Word. Hold fast to your confession. Stand bearing, wielding, your Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Eph 6).

During the temptation in the wilderness, Jesus defeated Satan with only one thing: It is written. That was the weapon Jesus used every time Satan sought to overthrow Him. It is written, Jesus said, then He quoted from the scriptures what God had said. What was the outcome? The devil left Him, and angels came and ministered to Him (Matt. 4:11).

The only weapon Jesus used was the Word of God. It always conquers.
