The Law of Genesis
These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came. . . Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. . . Faith begets faith. Fear begets fear. Strife begets strife. Anger begets anger. Love begets love. Joy begets joy.
Matthew 12:33-37 (KJV) 33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Matthew 12:33-37 (AMP) 33 Either make the tree sound (healthy and good), and its fruit sound (healthy and good), or make the tree rotten (diseased and bad), and its fruit rotten (diseased and bad); for the tree is known and recognized and judged by its fruit. 34 You offspring of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil (wicked)? For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil things. 36 But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak. 37 For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.
Genesis is a Greek word for “beginning.” Which is very interesting because when we go back to Genesis 1:1 We see “In the beginning God created.” And in 1:3 we see that He was creating these things by His Words. Last spring we studied this spiritual law and referred to it as the “Spiritual Law of Seed, Time, and Harvest.” Today we are also going to look at the Genesis account of the same law, which Charles Capps says is The Law of Genesis. So, this law, just like God, just like His Word, is the same yesterday, today, and forever. When we talk about this “law” I want everyone to understand that this is NOT a “law of Moses,” but it is a law more like what we would refer to as a law of nature, like gravity. It is a very important law that we need to sink really deep within our hearts in order to come into “agreement” with God and start really walking with Him (Amos 3:3).
Genesis 1:11-12 (NLT2) 11 Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened. 12 The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
After the flood, God made a promise to Noah.
Genesis 8:21-22 (KJV) 21 . . . I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; . . . 22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Seed, time, and harvest is God’s method. The law of Genesis is one of God’s fixed laws. We find that everything produces after its own kind and the seed is in itself. The seed of strife is in strife itself. If you get into strife with someone, it will create more strife. If you give love, you get love back. The seed is in itself.
Jesus, the Word Who became Flesh and dwelt among us, said the Kingdom of God works this way: Like planting seed into the ground.
Mark 4:26-29 (NLT2) 26 Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. 28 The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. 29 And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.”
Sometimes people give up before the harvest. You remember last week that we talked about the Ark and the massive size of the mission that Noah was given, if he had not followed through with action, things would have turned out badly for him. I want to tell you about an Ark that I quit on, I gave up before it came to it’s fruition. My youngest son Kyle, who had a near sids incident, had spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. I remember the Lord telling me to record, cassette tapes of me reading the Bible, and play them constantly to Kyle. Yes, the whole Bible, yes that seemed like the same size task as building an Ark the size of the Halliburton Administration building.
Kyle was the youngest of three boys, I don’t remember exactly how old he was when this took place, but he was not very old. I’m going to guess maybe four, which made the other boys be about 6 ½, and 9 years old. We were trying to stand on faith as best we knew how at the time, and still take care of the daily needs of both Kyle and the family. Jesse our middle son had like twelve surgeries at the Shriner’s Hospital in Shreveport LA before he was ten years old. So, there was a lot going on.
I got most of the way through Genesis on cassette tape. I remember trying to recruit my church family, which included blood family, to do some of the recordings. Which, I want to say, WAS NOT what God had told me to do. He told ME to read, say, record His Word, then play it constantly for Kyle, which meant that it would be playing in our house. . . Based on what we’ve been studying, just think on all the benefits, not just for Kyle, but for our whole household, had I followed through and built my Ark.
I want you to see that Jesus said in verse 28, “For the earth (our heart) yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head.” Doctors told us that Kyle would not live to be one year old, he lived to be sixteen, we had a lot of successes in prayer and faith through the years, but I don’t really feel that we ever saw the full harvest, because I believe the full harvest would have been a complete healing which is what God’s Will is for all of us, just as He tells us through His Word.
I know that I give testimonies about my son, and my mom, my dad quite a lot, and it may sometimes come across as kind of casual or maybe even a little flippant. But, I try to keep within my mind a picture of heaven as given to us from scripture, and when I do go through moments of sadness, it is for myself, for being without them, the sadness is not really for them, because they are so much better off where they are now. Sometimes, I recognize that I even have a bit of jealousy, because the struggles that we go through here are at best annoying. LOL If we allow ourselves to go into what I call true fits, or time frames, of depression over loved ones gone on before us, then we are allowing the devil to side-track us from our true purpose. And, I recognize that the foundation that I stand on even today from just a year and a half ago has a whole lot more rock and less sand in it. Oct 25 of this year was 10 years since Kyle passed, and Nov 11 will be 11 years since my dad passed.
Remember Paul tells us that we have to grow up, and then he said to the Philippians:
Philippians 3:13-14 (AMP) 13 I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.
Do I wish that I had attended to, and abided in God’s Word better so that things could possibly be different today, sure I do. Did Paul wish that he had not stoned Stephen, and killed other Christians, sure he did. But we press on.
So, I got off on my failed Ark story, because it was also a failed “seed, time, and harvest” story. We probably all have these in our lives, but our goal is to become successful in all that we do.
However, I do know that I have at least one success story of seed, time, and harvest: when I was pregnant with my first son, Paul, I had an alpha fetal protein (spelling?) test come back bad, and was sent to have some more in depth testing done. The doctor sat and talked to my mom and I, I was 18 years old, four months pregnant, three months married, my husband was working, and my mom had gone to the appointment with me. I was sent there by my obstetrician to have a high-powered sonogram, back in the day those were not available just everywhere. He had done the sonogram and saw nothing wrong, and he sat down and said well we really need to do another test, I think it was called an amniocentesis, because there is still a one in four chance that this could be wrong, and a one in ten chance that this could be wrong, and a one in twenty chance that this other thing could be wrong.
Something started welling up out of me, I know that it was the Holy Spirit, because I looked at that doctor and I said, I’m not having that test. . . He acted like how dare I. I looked him in the eye and said, you know, I’m pregnant, and I don’t believe in abortion, so doing that test, which involves sticking a needle into the umbilical cord and drawing some fluid, is just going to cause a higher possibility of losing the baby, what I just heard you say was that I have a three out of four chance that that is not wrong, I have a nine in ten chance that that is not wrong, and a nineteen out of twenty chance that that is not wrong. My mom sputtered something to the effect of, you know you are only 18, and the doctor grasped that and said why don’t you go to lunch, talk about it and come back. We went to lunch, I didn’t change. We went home, when we got there, my husband and my in-laws were finishing up milking the cows, leaning on a pickup and visiting, while the system wash cycle was running, they asked about the day, I had to stand my ground again. I spent the next five months standing and fighting. Paul was born just fine, early, but fine.
Isaiah 26:3-4 (KJV) 3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. 4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
That pregnancy was NOT a passive pregnancy. I was forced to continually lean into God, knowing that I got myself into the situation from a series of bad choices, but turning from bad choices to God choices was how I was going to have the strength to go on. That statement still applies to women who have had pregnancies from bad choices, no matter what choices that they made God still forgives, Jesus still covers us with righteousness, when we accept Jesus as our savior we can still go boldly before the throne of God as join heirs with Jesus Christ.
Satan would have us to believe the lie that we are not good enough to live the God kind of life, the “zoe” life. But in Hosea 4:6 “God says “MY PEOPLE” are dying from a lack of knowledge of Me.” And, Amos 3:3 says “How can two walk together accept they agree.” Stop beating yourself up, study God’s Word, and learn to agree with Him and walk with Him. Self-pity, and self-condemnation have no place in a believer’s life, believers are covered by the blood of Christ, we are to put on the armor of God beginning with the “belt of truth” and stand on the Word.
Matthew 12:33-37 (NLT2) 33 “A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. 34 You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. 36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. 37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”
God’s Word is incorruptible seed. God’s promises are seeds for a harvest. In Genesis 1:3 God saw darkness over the earth, and He said, “Let there be light!” He spoke the good thing into existence. Then in Genesis 1:26 He said, “Let Us make man in Our image according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
How was mankind to have dominion? The same way God did—with the power of faith-filled words. When he saw something that he didn’t like, it was his responsibility to change it. He was to change it the same way God changed things—speaking faith-filled words. Jesus said: . . . “whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them,” Mark 11:24. Pray the solution, do not pray the problem. If you pray the problem in prayer, you will have more faith in the problem than you will in the answer because faith cometh by hearing. Do not idly speak the problem, idly speaking words is still sowing seeds. Singing songs, even along with the radio in your car, that have lyrics that do not line up with and agree with God’s Word is equally a way of idly speaking, sowing seeds that grow into a harvest that you may not want. The law of Genesis says everything produces after its kind. But the very thing which God designed to help us to be victorious in our lives can also work against us, if we don’t carefully follow the instructions that He gave to us in the toolbox of His Word.
Luke 17:5-6 (NLT2) 5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.” 6 The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea,’ and it would obey you!
Faith works like a seed, in that unless you plant it, it will not produce. Faith does not come by asking. Faith comes by hearing the spoken Word of God. (Rom. 10:17)
Problems obey you. Jesus did not say the tree would obey God, and He did not say it would obey the Holy Spirit. He, Jesus, said it would obey you. Jesus said you don’t need more faith. You need to understand that faith works like a seed. Unless you plant it, it will not produce. Faith must be planted, you must use faith. Faith is an action. Shut up in the toolbox, faith has the potential to help, but cannot help until it is put to work.
Just like you can’t take a toolbox down to a water leak and set it beside the leak and expect the leak to stop, you also can’t go to the hospital and lay a Bible on someone who is sick to heal them. The Bible is the full Word of God, but if you can’t get that Word inside of them, that says “by His stripes you were healed,” then it will not manifest itself, for the Word produces when it is planted in the heart.
This tree which was an obstacle in their way, Jesus told the disciples, “if you had faith as a seed, you could say to this inanimate object, ‘Be plucked up by the roots, be planted in the sea,’ and it – the tree – would obey you.” The two great faith secrets here are: Faith is as a seed, or it works as a seed; and, you plant it by speaking it. Jesus is talking about problems in your life! Situations and circumstances that you don’t know how to handle, He is telling you to say to that situation, “Be removed and be cast into the sea; depart, be gone.” TELL the problem what to do and where to go!
Charles Capps said to remember God gave us dominion over creeps!
Genesis 1:26 (KJV) 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.
James 1:26 (NLT2) 26 If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.
If you pray one thing and say another, your saying will nullify your praying.
This Spiritual Law Works! Whether you call it “The Law of Genesis,” or “The Law of Seed, Time, and Harvest,” or “The Law of Faith,” this spiritual law works just like the law of gravity, and the law of electricity work. God set all of these laws into motion in Genesis Chapter 1, but the law of electricity did not become useful to us until we learned how to use it in just the last hundred or so years. God gave us His Word along with instructions on how to use it. He hasn’t changed His mind. It is still the same.
Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
Jesus Christ is what ______________? John 1:14 (KJV) “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” So, the Word, which includes this spiritual law, is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Just Extra -- Jesus set us free from “The Law of Moses”
Romans 4:14-16 (NLT2) 14 If God’s promise is only for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary and the promise is pointless. 15 For the law always brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!) 16 So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses, if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.
Galatians 5:4 (NLT2) 4 For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
Matthew 16:11-12 (NLT2) 11 Why can’t you understand that I’m not talking about bread? So again I say, ‘Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’” 12 Then at last they understood that he wasn’t speaking about the yeast in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
